The Brief

With an upturn in both the size and scale of projects required by a key client, “DRG” has had to upskill and recruit additional Senior Management and Project Delivery professionals to ensure they could retain and develop current staff, whilst importantly delivering their client’s construction needs. The skills required needed to range from Operational and Commercial Leadership to Project Management, Site Management, Quantity Surveying, Procurement and Estimating. Their client is a developer with a spread of projects geographically, so we have had to ensure new recruits are flexible and able to work remotely on projects. Candidates have to be communicators and participants rather than spectators to company a culture which is so important.

Our solution

DRG have been a dream client - very open and honest in both the challenges they face and the opportunities this gives to the business and the teams within it. They implement a comprehensive recruitment process – using initial video interviews, psychometric testing and face to face interviews on site so that prospective candidates can meet the team and project they are potentially going to be working within. At all stages detail is provided in terms of project overview, project timelines, person specification, the personalities and group dynamics in place. This enables us to not only match in terms of skills and technical ability but also cultural and personality fit, whilst ensuring the career aspirations of the candidate matches “DRGs” plans.

The extra mile

We would use the interview feedback, references, and psychometric tests all together to ensure we were finding the right person for the right role. Insight has been key to the success we have had, in not only recruiting staff but also ensuring they are happy in the position in the short, medium, and long-term.

After care is very important – we have scheduled catch up after week1 , Month 1 and Months 3 and 6 and will stay in touch beyond this, it is really important we use this feedback to benchmark the performance of the recruitment process and our own matching skills in terms of skill and cultural fit. Foremost is that DRG as a privately owned business, is getting true value for money from our service and the that the new recruits are happy, retained and driving company success.

We have followed up with Site Visits and one-to-one meetings with onboarded employees. DRG and Avocet are working together to continually improve the process, ensuring an enjoyable immersion into the business and ongoing support from the leadership team.
